To increase volume up, one to be able to do that with:
- Ctrl+= (so one doesn't have to hit Shift too so that this becomes Ctrl++)
- Ctrl+KPAdd (so one can utilize this key on a numpad)_
To decrease volume down, one to be able to do that with:
- Ctrl+KPSubtract (so one can utilize this key on a numpad)_

Please also take into consideration that, hitting Ctrl-Shift (for being able to send Ctrl++) could be a locale switching key combination.
