One problem with the current implementation is that there's no indication of stratigraphic relationships between units. On a classic map, this is depicted in the standard unit legend.
We don't bother labeling the polygons with text, because its duplicate information (color + text both identify units on a classic map). Besides, we show the labels on mouseover. Clicking on a polygon gives you the full unit description.
You cannot get any information about what the units are that surround the one you're currently reading about. I'm not 100% sure this is a problem, but the only way I can think to remedy it is to add a full-blown unit legend. Looking for other ideas.
