Is it worth it to learn Java/Scala/Clojure for Data Science? #1

Background

I've been thinking about why Spark, Flink, and a lot of Apache product for data is built on top Java (or JVM). This trigger several questions in my mind:

  1. Is it worth it to learn the language?
  2. If so how deep should I go (JVM vs Scala language)
  3. Any alternative language that I should better invest in?
