new crash: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: pointerIndex out of range #259

New crash in Crashlytics. This looks like it might be a ViewPager thing. We can migrate to ViewPager2 but it might take more than a few minutes.

(I have a 10 minute spike branch pushed.)
