Have a persistent reference to the most recent post of recurring series, like 
Open Threads and Rationality Quotes, since they are buried below other posts 
fairly quickly (especially the ones in Discussion).

The /about page is wikified - can that be used for this purpose?
Making other wikified pages or page segments is easy - can that be used for 
this purpose (for example, a stickies div at the top of the discussion list 
could actually be a wiki page)?
