This algorithm is dominated by the most active thread (the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.
level comments in that thread all outrank the 1st level post in the next most
active thread), and I don't think we want that. Should we show only the
highest ranked comment in any given thread (that is, taboo children of a post
higher in the list)?

The notion of a thread in the database basically doesn't exist, so I'm not sure
how we would do that - we could just limit the search to only top level
comments, but I'm pretty sure the current behaviour is superior to that.
