I couldn't get the Pearson editor to automatically handle the switch between math and text. The instructions seem to indicate that with Braille input at least, you need to switch explicitly to Nemeth Braille to enter math, and exit it to enter text. What am I missing?
The master version of MathLive now includes support for mixed math and text. There are three ways to include text in math:
Typing a quote (") will automatically start a text zone, which can be closed by typing another quote
You can toggle between math and text mode by pressing the alt+= keyboard shortcut (same shortcut as in Word).
If the config.smartMode
flag is set, MathLive will automatically detect when to switch between math and text. Here are some examples of input that is correctly detected:
slope = \frac{rise}{run} If x > 0, then f(x) = sin(x) x^2 + sin (x) when x > 0 When x<0, x^{2n+1} <0 Graph x^2 -x+3 =0 for 0<=x<=5 Divide by x-3 and then add x^2-1 to both sides Given g(x) = 4x – 3, when does g(x)=0? Let D be the set {(x,y)|0≤x≤1 and 0≤y≤x} \int_{the unit square} f(x,y) dx dy For all n \in \N Find the product 28\times75. Integrate f(x,y)=x^2+y^2 over the triangle with vertices (0,0), (0,1) and (1,0)
seems to be handled after mathlive update
found no issues with typing text and tested with " and alt+= However text was treated as part of the equation when pasting from another source
Description
Currently, mathlive has a
\text
command that switches to text. Users have to manually decide they want text and then end the text. Based on Pearson's accessible editor, I believe that we (mathlive) can do much better and auto detect when someone is typing math or text. There are a few situations where that might be hard, so having a manual "math mode" and "text mode" override would be still be useful, but almost all cases should be able to be handled automatically.Note: this is a mathlive issue that I've discussed off and on with Arno. Do it well is not trivial, but I think it would make it much easier to mix text and math and is worth the effort.
