Could you let us know whether you'll release a new version which will work in
Firefox 4 ...would be great if you would release one, will save a lot of
trouble migrating our application to html 5...! Thank you!

Same here; I'm using FF 4.0b3 and Windows XP Sp3; Offline Gmail just asks me to
install Gears over and over again.

it isn't just on windows there is a problem, under linux gears isn't compatible
with anny of the up to date browsers (no ff4 support, no chrome support,...).
ther are two ways to solve this:
- Make more and faster gears releases compatible with different platforms (maybe also chrome on linux)
- Phase-out gears in favor of HTML5 and make all google "offline" products HTML5 capable
i personally prefer the second one, but the first one would be great to

Currently on FF 4.0b6.
Aww, I was hoping Gears would work on it. Turns out it won't.
Any idea of when a release will come? For the Firefox 4 betas?

Google has ceased development on Gears in favor for HTML5 http://bit.ly/duEb18
It unlikely that the current release of Gears v0.5.36.0 will be updated to
support Firefox 4.

The blog entry mentioned by @v5point0 is 8 months old. The Google Apps still do
not support HTML5 Web Storage[1], and there has been very little communication
from Google regarding their plans for offline applications.
Since Google Gears has been abandoned, and Web Storage for Google Apps is not
available for Firefox 4 (and other browsers?), this means that offline mode for
Google Mail, Google Calendar and Google Docs is currently dead.

9 months on from first comment, do I or do I not change mail etc over to
google. Gears is critical where internet connections are always being
interrupted even in cities like Melbourne. Latest version of Explorer also
incompatible with Gears.
