I've been thinking about this, but I don't want to add more friction than necessary. I'd also really like to know whether people use a sign, thumb, or talk to people. Maybe in a section in the form that's collapsed by default?
I imagine something like this
@bopjesvla what to you think of this way of asking for information about the hitchhikers?
I'm not sure we should ask people to log other people's age given that it's all going in a public database. When we only ask about gender, we only rule out about half the population :)
I also think users are more likely to take this question in stride as everyone knows gender matters a lot when hitchhiking, while asking about gender/age feels more questionnaire-y. And this is all going in the collapsed section, so we should start with the bare minimum to see if people will actually fill in the collapsed section (if not, we'll probably end up removing it again--same goes for all features).
I'd first ask: "How many were you with?" then create as many gender dropdowns. Have the first dropdown say "What's your gender?", etc.
Agree for now. Let's define some adoption metrics we want to achieve, once the features are present. I see it more from a hitchhiking research standpoint (which I wont conduct but others might). Hitchmap as the main database tracking hitchhiking trips can play an important role in this realm. would be a pitty if we (in some years) did not have access to this data bc we found it was inconvenient to collect.
Gender, age and count of hitchhikers at a spot are relevant to how long they wait - this should be included for new spots as well.
