In addition to the unsemanticated italics I spoke about on the list…

  1. There are unsemanticated abbreviations throughout as well, e.g. names (R. J., H. Danner, etc.), initialisms (M.D., etc.), etc. The Step-by-Step guide contains a regex that can be useful for finding these. See 8.10 of the manual.
  2. There are missing thematic breaks throughout, e.g. chapter 7 ("Hugo opened his eyes…"). See section 4.1.1.2.7 of the manual.
  3. Some of the semanticated non-English italics, e.g. conquistadores, are in M-W, and therefore should not be italicized; see 8.2.9 of the manual.

I have found and corrected as many of the abbreviations and italics as I could, but I think I'm going to need some help on the thematic breaks. I sort of get the idea of what they represent, but I'm not confident on when they would be used. Is there a primer or reference I could look at that you'd recommend?

Anywhere there’s a space, i.e. a blank line (or space and a line) between paragraphs. Some books use both, I only remember seeing blank space in this one.

For example, p. 90 in the scans.

Gotcha, thanks. That's the example you referenced earlier and now I see what you mean about the blank line.

How's it coming, Nick?

I'll get this finished up tonight if at all possible and make the last commits.

Thanks, Nick

Besides the one on page 90, I found 5 thematic breaks in Chapter 13, and none in the rest of the book that I could see. I also remediated the abbreviation issues you outlined in your other email.
