I noticed another person with this problem from a month ago. The advice was to
repair permissions and reinstall Pokerstars. I've done that, I've restarted my
computer and I'm still having the same message: "Blazingstars could not find
the pokerstars preferences file at
/users/xxxxxx/library/preferences/com.pokerstars.user.ini."

I just encountered this issue. Patch attached, works for me.
In the meantime, a workaround which may help: the problem is text encoding. It
triggered for me when I searched for a player with a non-ascii character in
their name, which was then saved to the preferences file. If you open up the
com.pokerstars.user.ini file and manually remove any special characters
(accents, umlauts, whatever) this might fix the issue.
Obviously you should backup a copy of the file first in case you break
something :-)
