Bug causes game crashes in Samurai Warriors 2 Empires #1388

--------------------------------------

1) Did the game ever work correctly (i.e. not have this problem) on the
Official PCSX2 build or an earlier version of PCSX2 playground?
(If so, please specify the latest pcsx2-playground or Official revision
that last worked.)

No, every build I have tried this on has had the same problem, and people have
brought up this same problem on the pcsx2 forums as well.

2) What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Usually using the team musou(use musou near an ally general/s with lightning
flowing between you and them)attack on any stage, with any character will cause
this bug to happen.
2. Sometimes using a true musou(red life musou)on any stage, with any character
will also cause this bug to happen.

3) What exactly happens when you experience this issue (listing any console
errors or screen output you receive)?
The game momentarily freezes, screen will flash with broken grey graphics
briefly, and then either immediately crashes and shuts down the emulator, or
game will become extremely blurry(except text) until the emulator is shut down
and restarted; or the environment will turn solid grey with no textures and
this lasts until the game is shutdown and the emulator is restarted. Sometimes
the move will finish normally, but the game will become unstable and crash
during usage of another musou, or during gameplay unless completing shutdown
and rebooted.
The console shows no errors when this is happening, you just notice the effects
of it when it happens.

4) What version of PCSX2 are you using? On what operating system? Plugins?
Have been using the following versions of PCX2 from oldest to most recent:

Pcsx2-1.0-r5249
PCSX2 1.0.0
pcsx2-5594-windows-x86
pcsx2-5602-windows-x86
pcsx2-5603-windows-x86

Running on Windows 7, with the default plugins that comes with the emulator on
installation.

5) Please provide any additional information below.
The bug seems to be related to the brief action sequence that plays at the
beginning of the true and team musou attacks. The error has never manifested
during the actual attack, during the conclusion of the attack, or during any
part of the regular/awakened musou which both lack the action sequence.
A somewhat similar issue was present in Dynasty Warriors 5 a while back where
the game would just crash, a pcsx2 coder by the name of refraction had to
hotfix this personally and it no longer seems to occur. Here is the thread he
posted in.
http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-PSX2-Crashes-on-Dynasty-Warriors-5-Empires?page=2
While that error isn't exactly the same; since someone was able to fix it,
hopefully that coder or someone else will be able to fix this bug with the
musous in Samurai warriors 2 Empires which keeps causing the game/emulator to
crash.

6) Attachments.
These are the plugins and graphic settings used in all the emulators that have
been tried so far. Even after changing things around and not using shade
boost, using software renderer, and even hardware hacks, the bug still happens.

Do you get any errors in the console? an emulog.txt from after the crash would
be cool

Sadly no, which is the odd part, I never get any errors showing up in the
console when this happens, it just glitches out or flat out crashes.

Ok, this time I did manage to get errors in the console, I kept a closery eye
on the console this time and spotted them. Sadly the log refreshed so it
didn't show in the latest text file for it, but I caught screens of the error
in the console itself for you.

I got this one when doing a true(low health/red health) musou, the game froze
during the startup of that action cutscene thing that played, then resumed and
continued the attack normally, but the environment textures were all greyed out:

This one is the crashing bug one, I got this the same way, did a true(low
health/red health) musou, the game froze up during that action cutscene thing
before the move starts, and then the emulator crashed. Thankfully I caught the
error message in the console, it's at the very bottom so you can see it:

Hope that helps.

Thanks! Hopefully we can sort this at some point.

can you try and reproduce the error after patching the pcsx2 executable with
large address aware.

i play alot of dw sw games, and sw2empires worked just fine for me with
revision 5712 with (at the time newly released beta drivers) 13.8. i always
loathed the crash in sw2empires when the "cutscene" musou attack happened. but
yeah, i've used that same musou attack probably dozens of times in the same
battle and in many battles (including different maps etc) and it never crashed
including the team musou, full musou, low life team musou. i guess to some it
up i tested the game fairly thoroughly with this build and the beta drivers and
it work great. uh.. standard settings for most games, if i remember correctly i
always used vu speedhack +1 because my computer was slow. clamping chop/zero
and none. no cheats or fixes. only mtvu added to speedhacks. it ran with 1 by 1
skip\draw or by default, with directx or ogl. hell i even ran vlc with music
and\or firefox (with or without youtube). i had waited tryingout different
revisions and settings for that game many a'time. i hope this helps.
btw i ran it using the svn build exe and release candidate build (in folder). can't remember if i used linuz's loader (which i always did) or the built in. probably tried both. also, it ran under both native and custom res.

To danial:

Yes, even after trying the game after patching with large address aware that
issue still occurred. Having tried the newest emulator, the problem seems much
rarer, but still happens occasionally, it took a lot more tried to get it to
happen. Figured I'd let you guys know.
