I think it would be good to add few most frequently asked questions to the website. As the project gathers momentum, it would save us a lot of time in tackling growing volume of enquirers.

For instance, what's the status on actual phone/SIM support? GPS + OpenStreetMap? Bluetooth? Wi-Fi?

I haven't seen any obvious answers on how well the device hardware is supported as most things seem to talk about certain apps and the B2G stuff; all of this is interesting to me, but it'd be hard to consider playing with if the basics aren't covered.

Hi @toastal , that's a fair request :)

Wifi works well on tested devices (Pixel 3a and GSI based one like the Teracube 2e). GPS is also in good shape. Telephony is a bit more hit and miss depending on the chipset, and is not well tested. Same for bluetooth.

I full agree that basics need to be covered but we lacked time for that so far and focused on more differentiating features. Both are important though!

Oh, I'm not pressing on time or anything, but I was strictly curious. I was recently reunited with my OnePlus 1 and was looking into what would be some good options. The standouts were Ubuntu Touch with full support, or something a bit more cutting edge like this project. I love the promise of PWAs making bigger strides since it really can open folks to trying more alternate OSs while their favorite/necessary "apps" are still available until native support can roll around!

Is your OnePlus device this one: https://www.gsmarena.com/oneplus_one-6327.php ?

toastal commented 1 year ago

Yep. It was a good device for many years.

Yep. It was a good device for many years.

I can believe that! But unfortunately we don't support such an old android base anymore.

Well that is a bummer since the 801 CPU just got mainlined
