Try FlatLab Template #153

SmartAdmin is a good template that I've used - it would be my first choice. I've actually only used it as an AngularJS template to date but it supports straight html which is what we'd be using in your case. If you want to give it a try, put in an issue and I should be able to install it and have its basic nav stuff wired up in a couple of hours - we can give it a test in staging.

Thanks for your suggestion. I am still looking at options.

For the record, reference, I found a WordPress template with a blue and beige combination that matches our color scheme.

I still like the basic look and default functions of: http://www.egrappler.com/bootstrap-responsive-admin-template/index.html

Another one that appears to have every imaginable element we might need flatlab; thought I don't know if it runs on that same 'angular' basis

Isn't a template defined mostly by way of its CSS - plus and a few JS elements?

Let's try FlatLab on staging.

A template's definition is very much in the hands of its creator. Most simple or cheaper templates are just CSS based but plenty use JavaScript to provide additional functionality and some use JavaScript frameworks (usually JQuery but an increasing number are using AngularJS and a few use more esoteric things like CoffeeScript).

We can use either the admin or the front end styling for the front end (as I've mentioned before these are just conventional labels). I can test both and even mix and match elements but I suspect that the deep menus will be better suited to the admin presentation style.

Would you like my initial version to use a vertical LHS menu or stick with a horizontal, top of page menu?

cccs-ip commented 9 years ago

Thank you for taking this on. I suspect we can play around endlessly with presentation elements.... Still planning on hiring an apprentice to deal with CSS work?

Let's go with the admin styling as our base styling. I suppose we can always make adjustments as we go, but if that's the easiest format for deep menus, then let's keep with what works.

Please also feel free to mix and match.

One thing that I liked about Cristi's design concept was that it utilized to different menus (FlatLab admin does this as well), so that we could have "settings" (like language toggles) tucked away in one menu and the other menu could contain navigation elements. As just one idea for deep menus: Miight it be possible to use the horizontal top navigation appearance from the 'front end' for 'full screen' browsing and have it toggle to the to "pull-out" vertical navigation from 'admin' once the browser shrinks down to "mobile" sizes?

I've done a basic application of the theme. There are lots of issues but it should give you a good idea of whether you want to keep it or not.

Issues I'm aware of (I'll raise these as github issues if we decide to go ahead with it):

The overall theme looks pretty nice, but yeah - seems like there will be a ton of work to get everything we want back into this. It's impossible for me to estimate this time, and we've been burned a lot in the past with trying to get the template right.

I'd be happy to proceed, but you mentioned not being too interested in design / CSS work. How to proceed?

Hi guys, I could work and help again these days if you need me, I can use my hand now increasingly more?
