Original download is gone, might have to point to

Thanks for getting back to me.
1. I don't know how to 'point to' a URL in winetricks.
2. As Firefox 3.6 original download is gone, I suggest removing it from the
winetricks 'Install an app' menu.
3. I wanted to install Firefox for my Garmin GPS device, so that I would be
able to check and update the firmware. But I tried with Firefox 5. It requires
Garmin Communicator Plugin to be installed, which I wasn't able to complete
successfully. Once that it is installed, I suspect the next thing would be USB
drivers.

Found an official archive, fixed in r910. Try downloading from svn,
https://winetricks.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/src/winetricks

Try
rm -f winetricks
wget https://winetricks.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/src/winetricks
sh winetricks firefox36

1. I successfully installed Firefox 3.6 thanks.
2. The next was the Garmin Communicator plugin, which was successfully
installed.
3. The Garmin webpage could not detect the device, so I chose the first option
'install USB drivers'.
4. I restarted my computer.
5. The Garmin webpage could not detect the device, so I chose the second (and
final) option to install Windows Media Player. I installed the latest version
in winetricks (I think WMP10.0) within the Firefox36 prefix.
6. I checked that the device appeared in 'Drives' in wineconfig, which it did.
7. I restarted my computer.
8. The Garmin webpage could not detect the device.
9. I noticed on the webpage that it looked like iexplore uses a different means
to connect so I thought I'd give that a go.
10. Within the Firefox36 prefix I installed iexplore8.
11. That kept failing. I ended up deleting the whole Firefox36 prefix and
applications inside it.
12. I discovered Wine Internet Explorer.
13. I tried to use that about 6 times to connect to the device. I got to the
Garmin webpage OK but always got the 'encountered a serious problem and has to
close' message each time.
My objective was only to check and update the Garmin device firmware. Garmin
seems to need the Microsoft virus in order for their GPS products to work
fully, which I didn't know when I bought it. I'll try to think of another way
to do it.

See http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/WINE_MapSource for
some tips.

It certainly looks interesting, but I'm not going to spend any time on it now
because it doesn't mention GPS device firmware (or software) anywhere.

It tells you how to connect using Garmin MapSource to your Garmin device over
USB with Wine on Linux.
I think the tip for how to use the native linux usb serial driver will be useful
even if you're using WebUpdater to update your firmware. According to
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=7502
WebUpdater has worked with wine.
(And according to a note linked from that page,
for some devices, you can just plop the new firmward down on an sdcard, or
something.)
