For Updates to Existing Add-ons

For updates to existing add-ons, please attach the id to the add-on and only include updated fields from the template. For removal of add-ons, please attach the id too.

The id is part of the link to the add-on: For example, this addon below has an id of A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3 https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3

Check Before Uploading an Add-on

Your add-on will be running on Android/iOS/macOS/Windows, to enable maximum compatibility, please ensure that:

  1. File names referenced in models, ssc, dsc files, etc. are exactly the same as the actual file names (some file systems are case sensitive. For example if in your .ssc there is Mesh "Progress.cmod", then the file name should be exactly Progress.cmod not progress.cmod).
  2. Textures should have width/height of power of 2 (for example: 1024 512, a texture of 1000 500 will not work on many mobile devices).
  3. If your add-on requires specific Celestia versions, please mention in the description. Please also ensure that your add-on should not crash running on other versions.
  4. If you are updating an existing add-on, note that existing users will not see an update button, so it might be a good idea to include version history in the description.
  5. Please try to use smaller files for image/thumbnail/other metadata. For example, use JPG if alpha value is not needed.

Example:

Title: Kepler-1649 Description: The Kepler-1649 planetary system, which is a red dwarf star orbited by a Venus-analogue and an Earth-analogue. Alternate surfaces for planet c are included. Proposed category: Exoplanets Demo Object Name: Kepler-1649/c Author(s): SevenSpheres Release date: 2020-07-16 Link to download: Kepler-1649.zip Image: Untitled

For New Categories

If a New Addon does not fit into any existing category, you can propose a new one by following the format below:

**Short Name**: (used when context about parent category is given somewhere)
**Full Name**:
**Description**:
**Parent**: (N/A if it is a root category)
**Children**: (N/A if it is a leaf category, you might want to change children's short names to be concise)
**Image**: (must be about 3000 * 1000 pixels in size in order for the whole image to fit)

Example: For Parent Category Full Name: Exoplanets Description: Artistic Impressions of real exoplanets arranged by confirmation status and discovery years Children: Early Years, Kepler Era, TESS Era, Unconfirmed Image: image

Example: For Children Category Short Name: Unconfirmed Full Name: Exoplanets: Unconfirmed Description: These addons depict the star systems whose planets were spotted but is yet to be confirmed by follow-up observations Parent: Exoplanets Image: image

Proposal to move "HD 106906" (FF5AD8D8-43CD-FFFE-88AD-B389507D0B5E) into "Stars" category, since the default Celestia catalogs recognize it as a star rather than a planet

levinli303 commented 2 years ago

I added automatic conversion celaddon:// and celguide:// links in browser, so now all links in browser will be opened in browser instead of having to redirect to Celestia (except "Open in Celestia")

If that's the case something is wrong...

Also, maybe add trappistplanets' more realistic HD 106906 b?

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

@SevenSpheres We can keep both versions of HD 106906 b. The current one and also that of trappistplanets. Later I will upload the trappistplanets version.

I'm changing the submission format a bit to align with the data format underneath (items that are not marked optional are mandatory in a submission)

Title: ID Requirement: (optional, ID decides the order of loading, might need special requirement if an add-on has dependencies) Proposed category: (pick one of the existing categories (https://celestia.mobi/resources/categories), or suggest a new one) Demo Object Name: (optional, the name of the main object used for Go to command) Author(s): (optional) Release date: (optional, The date this original add-on is released. If left empty, will be the date the add-on is uploaded here) Link to download: (Please use zip to package the add-on, it should not contain a file called description.json) Image: (optional, no UI control element, HUD display, label. Avoid using "tall" pictures (height > width)) Thumbnail: (optional, by default will be the downscaled version of Image if present, so unless you want something different to show as a thumbnail, leave it empty) Disable comments: (optional, by default, comments are not disabled)

Description (Legacy): (plain text description of the add-on) Description: (optional, rich content description of the add-on, if it is plain text, put it in Description (Legacy) and leave this empty)

On older clients, it will look like:

Description (Legacy)
---------------------
Image

If you provided Description, on new clients, Image is not automatically attached at the end of description, so you need to also include Image in the Description field if you want the image there. It will look like:

Description

@DaveBowman2001 please include this format in the new post when you make one.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Does Additional metadata overwritten on the new format for Description or it still remains valid?

levinli303 commented 2 years ago

Does Additional metadata overwritten on the new format for Description or it still remains valid?

underneath there has never been a Additional metadata, so it does not affect what's already there, I'm only changing the submission format.

levinli303 commented 2 years ago

btw, I removed the link in plain text description

- Requires the [Space Shuttle](https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=1D93EA6F-8FC4-A477-7660-B6B343BB8E61) addon to view satellites TDRS-1 to 7

because older clients do not support select/copy description text, does not make sense for a link be in it.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Ok got it. So for Plain Text Description, the requirements for a certain addon must pertain to the category where it is located instead of a link?

levinli303 commented 2 years ago

Ok got it. So for Plain Text Description, the requirements for a certain addon must pertain to the category where it is located instead of a link?

not sure what you mean. "Description (Legacy)" will is just a text that is plain text only, non-selectable, non-copyable on old clients. It is also the text used for twitter card or other metadata parsing service.

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

@DaveBowman2001 A warning: In the Landsat 7, Landsat 8 and 9 addons there was a mistake in the SSC that was causing the satellite models not to appear in Celestia. In the SSC it was written differently from the original name of the models. It has now been fixed.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Can you specify which bug? Also, you don't have to remove the extra diffuse parts from TDRS and every other spacecraft that is dead in real life anymore. The bug which clutters the browser list has been resolved sometime ago for newer versions of Celestia Mobile, so any rogue duplicate names can no longer be seen there

As I mentioned before, the duplicates are meant to hide the spacecrafts' names once their end-of-mission is reached, thereby becoming derelict space junk

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

The bug was as follows, for example in Landsat 7:

In the SSC it said "landsat_7.cmod" But the real name of the model was actually Landsat 7.cmod

I didn't remove any diffuse objects from any of the addons. I just put the COSPAR ID and some extra name.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

In the SSC it said "landsat_7.cmod" But the real name of the model was actually Landsat 7.cmod.

I see. Must have followed the Celestia Origin format and not the latest Forum version when it was first uploaded here

I didn't remove any diffuse objects from any of the addons. I just put the COSPAR ID and some extra name.

I stand corrected. Thank you

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Not long ago, there was a similar problem with the asteroid 617 Patroclus, where the SSC said "roughsphere.cmod", but Celestia only accepts "roughsphere.cms". Consequently, the model was not visible on Celestia. Well, at least now these simple problems have been solved. It is enough to err a single letter or a single point in the SSC, DSC or STC that already causes problems.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Yeah, Celestia files are case sensitive when declaring filenames for models and textures. I swear I have typed roughsphere.cms instead of roughsphere.cmod at the time lmao. But oh well thank you for the fix!

Title: Alpha Centauri B Description: Alpha Centauri Bb is a proposed exoplanet that would be orbiting the star Alpha Centauri B (Toliman) 4.37 light-years away from Earth. The possible discovery of the planet was announced in October 2012 by European astronomers. In October 2015, astronomers at the University of Oxford published a scientific paper refuting the existence of the planet, considering that it is very likely that the planet does not exist. If it really exists, it would be a planet similar in size to Earth, but very hot due to its proximity to Toliman. @DaveBowman2001 I don't know why, but the STS-41-C mission, which in this case is the SolarMax repair mission, is not appearing on Celestia, it simply doesn't appear in the browser or when searching for the mission name. Screenshot_20220614-121743_Celestia

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

@DaveBowman2001 I don't know why, but the STS-41-C mission, which in this case is the SolarMax repair mission, is not appearing on Celestia

Yes, it doesn't appear because on its Timeline code, that mission's OrbitFrame will switch from Sol/Earth to Sol/Earth/SolarMax. Since the latter satellite isn't available yet, it would not appear. This is why I said that I will handle all the shuttle-related payload addons because these issues happen much significantly on Mobile

Once SolarMax becomes online, STS-41-C should now be able to appear in Celestia

Title: OAU: 40 Eridani Description (Legacy): This triple system near Sol is known variously as Keid or 40 Eridani. Most colonists settled on Twilight, but a smaller fraction established colonies on the planet's L2 Lagrange point, and other neighboring worlds like Umbra and Orson Proposed category: Fictional: Orion's Arm Demo Object Name: Keid A Author(s): Steve Bowers, jmdollan Release date: 2006-Oct-17 Link to download: OA - 40 Eridani.zip Image: Untitled Additional metadata Untitled
