Tree Inventory/Maintenance App #10

Open WERUreo opened 8 years ago

WERUreo commented 8 years ago

Short description of the idea (140 character tweet):

An app to request tree maintenance through photo submissions.

What is your project concept or idea? What challenge or opportunity will it solve?

This app would allow citizens to report trees in need of maintenance by taking a photo of the tree and sending a request directly to the Parks department. The request would include the photo, a time stamp, and GPS coordinates to allow Parks to confirm that the photo was taken recently and is within their jurisdiction. It might even be possible to have the app confirm jurisdiction prior to submission by checking the location against GIS boundaries.

Who will benefit from your project? Describe the humans at the center of the problem - who are they?

How would they benefit? Can you tell their story?

Do you have photos of them? Or quotes?

This project would be a way for citizens to give back to the City by providing an easy way to inform Parks of trees that are in need of maintenance. I can only imagine the amount of trees around the City that are neglected simply because there isn't an easy way to provide these requests.

Issue area(s) relevant to your project idea:

This is currently just an idea for a solution.

Tell us about yourself.

What is your background? Why is this challenge important to you?

Are you representing a group in submitting this project idea?

I am an iOS developer representing Code for Orlando. This idea comes from City of Orlando employees looking to help make the City a better place.

We could probably combine this with issue #8 for a single tree request/report app. Have them submit a photo of the desired location and use the image's coords as a backup.

I believe we were talking about a general purpose cross-faded reporting application at one of our previous meetings. We could start with trees and add other items later like potholes.
