Consider moving user configuration file/s (like photorec.cfg, photorec.sig) to $HOME/.config/photorec/ as described in XDG Base Directory Specification. It is not X windows application, I know, but many sensible, non X windows projects like mc, think the policy of keeping home directory clean and tidy is a good thing.
PS. Some basic example of photorec.sig would be terrific. As I understand # is a comment.
