I actually have that rule under "final anusvāra variants (Malayālam)", so that if you set <textLang mainLang='sa-Mlym'/>
it activates. I wonder if we should make that a script-independent setting, like "conservative" or something, or if we should also activate it for @mainLang='sa-Newa'

I think script-independent would be appropriate, because this is also a usage in Śāradā MSS. But it's not all sa-Newa MSS, only some, which is why I thought at first about the scriptNote approach.
The Nepalese MSS I'm working with are quite conservative in their final sandhis, often preferring a class nasal. So,

Could -n d- and similar be added to the orthographic variants on a per-MS basis (like b/v s/ś)?
