Please note that VMs are not officially supported.
Also note that you need USB passthrough, otherwise it will almost certainly not work.

You get that error when using usb3 in your setup on VMware.. choose usb 2..

++incorrect.. just tried my side and same issue, error 31

Tried also on the newer 0.9.9 beta version as well

Where Are you finding a 0.9.9 version? The latest I see is 0.9.8.2. Also interesting, this is the first time I’ve ever heard anyone saying a virtual machine would at all run this jailbreak, I’ve always heard that it will not work whatsoever. I’ll have to look into USB Passthrough now!

@redhotneo I removed your link. Please don't link to images hosted elsewhere than checkra.in.

The URL that was posted on that third-party site, was your own website here though. I guess you have a place for people to do beta testing before you even released him as beta?

Siguza commented 4 years ago

It wasn't though. It was a file hosted on their server, which may or may not be modified, I don't feel like checking/monitoring that. I suppose the link you were looking for is: https://assets.checkra.in/test/checkra1n%20beta%200.9.9.dmg

And sure, beta testing is fine here, just keep in mind that there's a reason we haven't made an official 0.9.9 release, and that this binary might break more than it attempts to fix.

I will not digress from the original topic after this :-) Makes sense, I would wait until it was released on the main site for safety. And I totally agree for security it ought to be downloaded from a single trusted site. With this vulnerability someone with the know how could do absolutely anything on your device they wanted to! I already had an instance of uncover being modified at ‘topsite’ sumthin sumthin and now consider every web based jailbreak installer to be disreputable, even if a trusted website links to it, it can change overnight! I should have kept a copy of it for later analysis. Since then I only sign uncover using ReProvision and download it’s updates from their official site!
