This would not only be useful, it is a requirement for an effort I am working.
It is
also a requirement to display gridlines using MGRS.

Conversion from feets to meters will be very useful as many of them have
already
adopted metric system for all the calculations

Our applications use meters and kilometers, so conversion from feets to meters
will
be very useful.

Hi all, before all congratulation for this SUPERB product.
In France we have geoportail for metric use, but it is nowhere as good as
googleearth
regarding ergonomic consideration.
Nevertheless the metric system is being used by a LOT of people in the world so
it'll
make sens to have it available in googleearth too. (coding change to have it is
basic
... Come on men, give it a go in the next Beta !)
Thank you

First of all, absolutely brilliant effort from you guys! For our product metric
units
is also a must. Any idea on the timescale for adding metric support?

there needs to be a system for changing the units of measure, specifically the
long.
and lat. format, H MMM.DD.DDD or H MMM.DD.SS or what ever the format may be.
This
would be very nice. Hope this is something that is in the works. thanks and
good
luck with this!

The scale and status bar currently show meters and kilometers. Is anyone seeing
any
different units with the latest plugin version (4.3.11528.8566)?

Re: comment 19 - As far as I can tell, I've got 4.3.11528.8566 (thats what the
properties of geplugin.exe says), and Im seeing miles/ft in the scale and
status bar.

Is there something I need to do to set it to metric?

Original comment by mark...@gmail.com on 10 Feb 2009 at 8:06

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Ah, ok. The Windows plugin shows ft/mi. and the Mac plugin shows meters/km.

This is both a bug (should default to system pref) and a feature request
(change via
API).

Yes! Fully support ability to change units on status bar and perhaps elsewhere
(units) to feet/meters/miles. Natural extension is to have lat lng in decimal
degrees
(vs deg min seconds etc). Is there anyway of taking the default as whatever the
local
Google install (assuming there is one) is showing?

Additional scale features required please:
1. Position the scale wherever we want it and
2. Align the scale vertically or horizontally
so, for example, it can be placed vertically along the middle of the left edge
of
the 3d map.
3. Option to express the scale in nautical miles (for nautical navigation)
instead
of metric or imperial
4. Option to express the scale in time instead of distance eg to show how far
something travels in x hours
4. Ability to specify how long the scale should be
5. Option to specify color and scale of the scale line and the legend; the
existing
thin white line and text often get lost to the user's eye unless the background
happens to be blue.

v5.2.0.5860 implements a new ge.getOptions().setUnitsFeetMiles(bool) method

Original comment by jli...@google.com on 26 Mar 2010 at 6:55

This is great!

I will be adding setUnitsFeetMiles to my app next week

Is there any notes indicating what has been updated/fixed/ added with
v5.2.0.5860?

Original comment by Berwyn.M...@gmail.com on 26 Mar 2010 at 7:41

I confirm GREAT!
It is necessary to update GE plugin (delete npgeplugin.dll in C:\Program
Files\Google\Google Earth\plugin and reinstall through a Earth frame displayed
in
your prefered browser).

When an option for "decimal degrees" too???

Doing reinstall dll

Thanks a lot !

This issue is marked as "fixed", but it appears only set distance units is
fixed and
NOT the ability to set the StatusBar units to "decimal degrees".

Does a NEW issue need to be opened to request the ability to set the StatusBar
units
to Decimal Degrees?

We really need the ability to set the Lat/Lon units to Decimal Degrees (instead
of
degrees, minutes, decimal seconds.

Thanx

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
if one needs output displaying decimal degrees, a work around may be to set up
an
event listener for ge.getGlobe(), 'mousemove' to update an displaying the
decimal
lats and longs

the following example should work with getLongitude and getLatitude

http://code.google.com/apis/earth/documentation/samples/mousemove_listener_examp
le.html

Comment 38 mentions updating the GE plugin by replacing the npgeplugin.dll, but
I
can't find the updated DLL. I tried updating my full Google Earth
installation but
I got the message that no update was available (I have the Jan 2010 release.)

How can I get the updated GE plugin (v5.2.0.5860) short of reinstalling the
entire
Google Earth application?

I need this update since new Google Earth installs get this updated GE Plugin
and my
existing C# application does not not work with GE Plugin v5.2.0.5860 unless it
is
compiled against this version.

Comment 44
After you have deleted npgeplugin.dll in C:\Program
Files\Google\Google Earth\plugin, you restart your browser and open a page with
a GE
API (go to the example page in Comment 43, by example) and there a link will be
displayed to install the plugin. Just make it!

Comment 43
Event listener is not exactly what we need. We want decimal degrees in status
bar,
nothing else.

Come ONNNNNNNNNNNN! 3 years later, tons of interest and we still don't have
meters in the scale bar?

Really I have no other complaint about this software, but restricting units
seems like a pretty glaring oversight especially when most of the world is
METRIC

You guys rock for making such awesome, free software so I feel bad saying this
but PICK UP THE SLACK GOOGLE!

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
It seems only logical since the plugin uses decimal degrees to build the
placemarks that one should be able to then show the lat/lon in the status bar
as decimal degrees.
