I love this! For better or worse, I think package “marketing” probably has a far bigger impact on their success than one might guess. Hex logos are so fun and really useful for discovering / remembering packages
What do you tend to use @angela-li? Any software you’d recommend people install ahead of time? I’ve only ever used PowerPoint which is definitely not ideal. Heard great things about Inkscape but never tried
I have Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc) courtesy of my research center and can put my graphic design skills to use for the R community! I actually agree that for lightweight general graphics stuff there's no better image manipulation software than Google Slides/PowerPoint
Wow - what a pro! No wonder the chirunconf sticker looks so great :)
There's actually a package to make hex stickers: https://github.com/GuangchuangYu/hexSticker
The functionality is a little limited but I used it to make the R-Ladies Rocur hex sticker 😄
I used the hexSticker package to make my lab's logo, it's so good but I guess it cant beat something made using the Adobe Suite.
No one in the lab knows this actually comes from the R community ;)
Great idea!
Although I worked in the visual industry (photographer) most of my life, I still sent this lil package out to the world without a sticker -- so sad :(
Nice! I propose whatever tools we use (also, hexSticker is awesome, and free! I only use Adobe because I sometimes want more ability to tweak graphics, and I have it free), we offer hex sticker services to folks at the unconf. Maybe we can start asking around if folks want stickers?
For one, I think @jdblischak 's workflowr package could use a sticker!

@angela-li Thanks for the offer! I've started on a hex sticker design, but I haven't done a good job advertising it: https://github.com/workflowr/workflowr-assets/blob/master/img/hex-workflowr.png
The source is saved as an SVG file from Inkscape (for some reason it does not display properly on GitHub's file viewer): https://github.com/workflowr/workflowr-assets/blob/master/img/hex-workflowr.svg
What service do people use to print their hex stickers?
Oh great, I hadn't seen that! I get my hex stickers from Stickermule - they're relatively speedy and high-quality.
@angela-li If no one else takes you up on your offer, I have a small side project (still in the early development phase) called rstats-net-health. The idea is to create a central place to look for the status of services used by R developers (e.g. GitHub, Travis, etc). My idea for the hex sticker would be to have the R logo with a thermometer or similar, but I'm also open to ideas.
That workflowr
logo is so elegant and evocative.
My incomplete package could use some hex sticker love: https://github.com/kanishkamisra/footrulr Maybe I can get motivation to finish it if it ends up having a sticker lolol
That's such a wonderful idea!
For a while now I have been meaning to and failed to make a hexSticker for ggstatsplot
:

Would love to see any ideas that might come out of the conference.

@wlandau Thanks! I am certain no design I have created in the past ever received such praise :-) And I can only take partial credit. My collaborator Peter Carbonetto also helped with the design.
@angela-li, I wold love to pick your brain and get technical help for my tor (to-r) package. The only idea that came to my mind was some kind of street sign, pointing to places you don't want to go in a very unappealing way, and pointing to R in a very appealing way. Just to clarify, the thing that makes the trip (i.e. that goes to R) is data.
Need a hex sticker? Want a hex sticker? Another project idea I have is pairing stickerless packages with folks who are willing to brainstorm/make stickers.
Aka: I'm willing to make stickers for people!
