I'm using Pidgin 2.6.6 but I can't reproduce the problem, at least with Yahoo.
What
protocol are you using?

ICQ

I can't figure out what's wrong, because it works fine for me for both yahoo
and icq.
Could you test a debug version of the plugin? These are the steps:
1. If you don't want to post here your public IDs, create a pair of dummy
accounts
and you will send messages from one to another.
2. Replace your knotifications.pl with the one attached here. Restart Pidgin.
3. Open a debug window (buddy list -> help -> debug window)
4. In the filter field write knotifications and press enter (see attached
screenshot)
5. Now when you receive a message from someone you should see a new line in the
debug
log. I need to know what is shown for you. Ideally the second word is the
sender
name, followed the message plus other things.

It looks like a pidgin bug. But I have Mandriva 2010 too and I don't see it.
What's the output of:
rpm -qa | grep purple
rpm -qa | grep pidgin
Thanks

As I suspected, it was a Pidgin problem that appeared in 2.6.6 . It's already
fixed
upstream, so it should go away at your next update.
See http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/11431
For now all you can do is to downgrade to anything before 2.6.6 or compile
yourself
the latest sources.
I'm closing the bug since it's not related with the plugin, but feel free to
ask for
help if you have problems again.

By looking in the source package (
http://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.mandriva.com/MandrivaLinux/official/2010.0/SRPMS/
main/
backports/pidgin-2.6.6-0.2mdv2010.0.src.rpm ) apparently they just use the base
version and some patches, but not the one that fixes the Perl plugins problem.
So I submitted a bug report:
https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=58439
You can vote for it ;)
