Use 'path' instead of 'fields[0]' for find_storage (and check find_storage errors)

Details in the commit messages, but the tip commit fixes a bug with 'release' that was breaking my attempts to add music to my phone.

This PR is based on #5, but I can rebase it onto master if the reformatting in #5 isn't wanted.
