Add RSS Feed to blog on official website #237

Open klaas opened 3 years ago

klaas commented 3 years ago

Current Implementation

There is no RSS feed available on https://www.coronawarn.app/de/blog/

Suggested Enhancement

Add RSS feed to https://www.coronawarn.app/de/blog/ and https://www.coronawarn.app/en/blog/

to be able to use a feed reader to get notified about new entries in the blog.

Expected Benefits

Many people use RSS feeds (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS) to get news about companies, services, politics and so on. Important changes to the CWA would spread faster.

There are very few blogs that don't support this "technology".

There are plugins for this on http://gulpjs.com

Internal Tracking ID: EXPOSUREAPP-3448

heinezen commented 3 years ago

Hey @klaas ,

Thank you for the suggestion. I have created an internal Jira ticket for your request (EXPOSUREAPP-3448) and forwarded the feedback the the developers. They will now discuss how and if the RSS feed can be integrated. We will post updates on the progress of the feature here on Github if we have any news on the topic.

Best Regards, CH

Waiting for this feature too! Looks like more time is spent on discussion/organization than actual implementation 😂

Any progress here ?

MikeMcC399 commented 3 years ago

Perhaps it could be linked into the feeds from RKI?

https://www.rki.de/DE/Service/RSS/RSS_node.html shows

RSS feed Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2

@MikeMcC399, @F3000, @darkdragon-001, @klaas, indeed this topic was raised internally very recently. Stand by for more information hopefully soon. Best wishes, DS

I found this today : www.rss.App

Maybe this works

@F3000

I found this today : www.rss.App

Maybe this works

I went to the site https://rss.app/ you suggested, selected Get Started Now selected Webpage to RSS feed entered https://www.coronawarn.app/en/blog/ then clicked Generate

The feed preview unfortunately showed incorrect URLs for instance https://www.coronawarn.app/en/2020-12-30-cwa-behind-the-scenes instead of https://www.coronawarn.app/en/blog/2020-12-30-cwa-behind-the-scenes

@klaas

There are plugins for this on http://gulpjs.com

I had a brief look at the link and the rss plugins seemed quite old. Do you have any experience of using any of them?

cyroxx commented 3 years ago

I think it would be equally nice to have an Atom feed additionally/instead of an RSS feed. Any of these will work for me ;)

I don't know much about nodejs, but a quick search gave me https://github.com/jpmonette/feed - maybe that is of any use here?

vzsze commented 3 years ago

An RSS feed would be very helpful.

MikeMcC399 commented 3 years ago

The issue https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-wishlist/issues/364 concerns a Twitter account. This could also be used to provide updates, like an RSS feed.

darkdragon-001 commented 3 years ago

Still no updates? It's almost a year now for adding a few lines of code and benefiting the left over users of the app to stay up to date with new features...

I don't know what happened to the internal discussions about setting up an RSS feed, however you can get automatic updates by following the Twitter account https://twitter.com/coronawarnapp which is being used extensively and it normally also says when there is a new blog entry posted.

darkdragon-001 commented 3 years ago

I don't want to install proprietary, closed source apps like Twitter on my phone.

MikeMcC399 commented 3 years ago

@darkdragon-001 The RSS feed from the Robert Koch Institute https://www.rki.de/SiteGlobals/Functions/RSSFeed/RSSGenerator_nCoV.xml also covers the Corona-Warn-App.

Look out for entries such as:

Infektionsketten digital unterbrechen mit der Corona-Warn-App

Jede Nutzerin und jeder Nutzer der Corona-Warn-App leistet einen wichtigen Beitrag zur weiteren Eindämmung der Pandemie. Wir danken den Bürgerinnen und Bürgern für ihr Interesse und ihre Beteiligung!

which announced the new CWA version 2.9 yesterday.

darkdragon-001 commented 3 years ago

@MikeMcC399 Thanks for pointing this out. The problem with the RKI feed is that 90% of the entries are situation reports twice (en, de) which are only links to non-accessible pdfs. It's just too time consuming to filter out the relevant posts...

Schade, dass Ihr es nicht schafft, einen einfachen RSS Feed einzubauen.

Wäre das Einrichten einer Faxabrufnummer vielleicht möglich? SCNR.
