Model and Data repository #167

Open danhanes32 opened 2 years ago

danhanes32 commented 2 years ago

Hi, In connection with an upcoming NSF funded research project, I will need a repository for a numerical model and model generated data. Given the nature of the project (analysis of bedform morphodynamics), I think CSDMS would be an appropriate organization for this, if you offer this possibility.
thanks, Dan

Hi Dan--let me check with @kettner, I think he'd be the person at CSDMS best able to help you.

Hi Dan, thanks for reaching out. CSDMS for sure can help setting up a model repository and host the source code for you (this will be through github, and the repository will show up at: https://csdms.colorado.edu/wiki/Model_download_portal).

Most likely we can also help for the model generated data but it depends a bit on data size. It will be difficult if it involves terabytes of simulation data but even so, we can look into solutions if it is that much of data. Smaller datasets we can for sure help out with and post.

Can you indicate how much data is involved? Thanks! Albert

Thank you, Albert, for the quick and positive response. I don't anticipate a large (terabyte) amount of model output data. The main output will likely be a few velocity time series from specific stations (grid points) in a Delft3D model run. The amount of model produced data would probably be in the MB range, or maybe GB. If this actually comes to pass, it would be in about two years from now. best regards, Dan

That sounds totally doable Dan, So yes we can host model source code + simulation data. And I can let you know how to start with the source code once you're ready. Sounds like there is some time to work on this (~2years). Cheers, Albert
