Research

When do you want to do research? I'm interested in doing research during the school year, starting this fall.

What is exciting to you about research? CS 3410 was one of the best and most interesting class I've ever taken. I loved getting to see behind the scenes of how my code worked -- how printing a simple "Hello world!" required dozens of lines of computation that I couldn't see. I would like to continue to explore the world of programming languages and computer architecture at Capra, where I believe I'm a great fit. I'd have to dust off my CS 3410 skills, but I don't think it would be too hard and I'd enjoy doing so.

What kind of research do you want to do? I'm really open to anything! I would be interesting in anything that you all think I could handle.

Background

Note: While these questions are optional for first & second year students, we highly encourage everyone to respond to them. Third & fourth year students are required to respond to all questions.

Was there a paper that particularly excited you? I read the abstract on Calyx and found it very interesting. I didn't know much about accelerators before reading, but after doing some digging, I now understand that making accelerators easier and more intuitive to debug makes them a lot more accessible to those who don't have as much hardware knowledge and would be beneficial to almost everyone involved. Additionally, the fact that Calyx detected previously unreported bugs is huge and could indicate that this method of debugging could have more benefits other than just making the process simpler.

Which of the current research projects would you be interested in working on and why? I think computer vision is an exciting field that has some really cool uses so Exploiting Temporal Redundancy for Live Computer Vision stands out to me.

Anything else you want to tell us about yourself? I would be open to learning any new technologies required of me

Hi Kaden! Sorry to say that the computer vision stuff isn't an active project anymore, but there is plenty going on in the Calyx ecosystem. Shoot me a message if you're interested in working on Cider (the Calyx Interpreter and Debugger) stuff.

Yes, I'm still interested! I would love to chat more about the group and Cider.

It's been roughly 90 days since opening this issue. We apologize if we haven’t gotten back to you—research openings are somewhat sporadic, so sometimes we don’t have specific opportunities to offer. But more will certainly come in the future! If you're still interested in doing reasearch with us, please respond with "Still interested for <semester/summer>". Additionally, please update the issue by editing it and supplying us with more information, an updated resumé, etc. If you're no longer interested, do not respond to this thread and we will automatically close this issue.
