So that i can create my own team, invite others to join and have team battles/tournaments

This is a good idea.

Simon did state that he looks to add:

"More support for social features Friending people, etc. should be a thing. PMs, better chat, Emoticons and sharing videos should be things."

i think at that this is a larger feature we should revisit down the line, but keep in our head as we implement back-end infrastructure/features etc.
