Remove titration challenge #188

Closed K-Meech closed 3 years ago

This removes the titration challenge (and all mentions of it) from the lesson.

This does mean the introduction episode is very focused on bacterial colonies now - I wonder if in the long run this introduction episode could be removed, and this information merged into the final challenge?

Thanks @K-Meech this looks good. I wonder if we can still make some mention of colorimetrics in the introduction, even if we then only link out to somewhere external where learners can read more. I will look at this again tomorrow, and see if I can find a way to tweak the introduction to frame morphometrics as the branch of image processing that the lesson will focus on, one of several possible types of analysis.

Thanks both for the feedback! I would be in favour of the second suggestion of @quist00. We could make the introduction much more generic, and then have the specific morphometrics example at the end of the lesson.

I'm not sure about adding general mentions of colorimetrics - as it is not a very standard problem. The term is usually used in the specific context of chemistry, and determining the concentration of different compounds, and not as the general analysis of colour in images... In contrast, morphometrics is quite general - being anything that is concerned with measuring the shape / size of objects.

Thanks both for this thoughtful discussion. If we are going with this option, @K-Meech, do you expect to have time to draft a more general introduction on this branch? Or would you prefer that we merge this as-is and I can then work on a more generic introductory text afterwards?

K-Meech commented 3 years ago

I can draft something, but probably not until Friday / this weekend.

👍 I'll check in again in another couple weeks in case you haven't found time to work on it before then - I know you have plenty of other things going on too 😅

Sorry for the delay @tobyhodges - I thought I'd have time for this, but it has been super busy since coming back to Germany! Would you be happy to merge this, and then you or someone else work on making the introductory text more generic?
