Concerts and Music #103

There should be at least one concert hall in Decentraland where artists (famous or not) can go up on a stage (they volunteer or are voted by the community) and perform concerts. These could be free, cost ether to attend, or could accept donations via a QR code on a banner near the stage. The artists could link Ableton live, an electronic drum kit, electronic-enabled guitar, electronic microphone, or other peripherals such as a VR headset in order to perform music concerts which could also be streamed on Twitch. I think this would be revolutionary to the VR space, especially with the scarcity you get with blockchain.

Hey @admazzola I've posted a proposal with some high level technical detail to solve this issue. https://github.com/decentraland/proposals/issues/110

Doing something like this in the VR space has been an idea of mine for some time, so it's great to see others wanting the same thing!

Why do we have to agree on there being one concert hall?

As an artist all I'd want is the ability to stream pointclouds, meshes and audio, and it would be up to venues to support various protocols through scripting.

Also, from a security perspective, how would you get the artists paid? I think it's best if we could have this solved through trial and error by parcel owners

Think that's why @admazzola said "at least one" concert hall. I'd image there would be lots springing up all over DCL to cater for different groups and tastes similar to what we have in RL.

Streaming point clouds is a very interesting idea! My initial thoughts were focused on streaming audio primarily, which would also allow artists not familiar with VR to also stream content into venues. I guess for places like studios sessions, or live events, it could be possible to setup the gear needed to stream point clouds too!

As for paying artists, I guess some events could run off a donation system like admazzola mentioned. Guess it would also be possible to sell etickets which are based on the blockchain (like https://aventus.io/), then only valid users get access to the event. Proceeds would be worked out between venue owner and artist. That's assuming artists don't just start there own venues for their own gigs in DCL.

I'm thinking point clouds would be ideal, if one could write a client that lets a band setup a kinect, a laptop (for streaming) and their live-rig and do whatever they usually do then the entry-barrier will be low enough technically to allow for more artists to play.

Sure, it only allows for observing the band from straight ahead and also band members could cover eachother up unless you add more kinects, but that makes setup more difficult etc.

Perhaps band-members/artists could use some kind of AR-system to view the venue they're playing with and interact with the audience

My proposal for Festland aims to provide similar functionality.

The proposal mentions that we aim to provide a 'stage' which can be used for contributors. This is the path towards live realtime audio and visuals so that Bands can play on stages at the festival.

The proposal does not go into the technicalities. I have some background in streaming AV so certainly find this proposal interesting.

It is called Festival of Festivals because we welcome a multitude of venues / genres / performing arts.
