Tech blog #132

Decred needs a tech/dev blog.

What is tech blog: a stream of technical and semi-technical writings that expose ongoing process of building tech and different aspects of how that tech works. In our case, Decred software and maybe hardware.

How can it benefit Decred:

Good examples outside Decred:

The biggest challenge I see is that current developers have very little time to write. Ideally, each project has a person with good writing and tech skills who is closely following it and writing stories.

Suggested implementation: Git repo with Markdown files, similar to Decred Journal. I could maintain such repo.

Would also be interested in helping with an article. Have been deep into the guts of Politeia the last couple months, so might be able to leverage that. Also been slowly wrapping my head around basic blockchain concepts. @RichardRed0x, the new treasury proposal might be interesting to write about if it passes.

As for what's interesting from a dev perspective, that is likely going to be using hot cool new tech, or architecture idea/philosophy. Or perhaps just a how-to blog detailing some advanced process that devs working in blockchain will find in the course of their work.

With the intent is to minimize dev time, the process looks like

  1. someone sparks an idea of a post
  2. "post owner" picks the idea and checks it with dev
  3. dev shares opinion and tells if he commits to review/contribute
  4. post owner writes
  5. post owner passes draft by the dev, repeat (4) if necessary
  6. final review
  7. publish

Next step is to gauge whether developers would participate in this.
