shrapnel gun #151

Gun with splintering bullets once it impacts so you shoot, and if it hits a wall, the bullet explodes, releasing an area which is able to damage people perhaps a sniper-like weapon, 7 rounds

DisposableKatyusha commented 1 year ago

*edited such that the manner of damage should be made not by shrapnel, but by an explosion radius

Sure, let's make it

Sounds like the USAS-12 from surviv.io definitly not a sniper tho too op make it bad accuracy and low bulletspeed, maybe 10 rounds

I honestly fail to see what's OP about such a sniper. Imagine we create a gun by copying HeavySniper. We turn down the damage so that it is a 3 hit kill now, but keep the firerate as is. But also give it AOE the same size as the grenade. The AOE also deals 3 hit kill damage. It's a perfectly balanced gun: HeavySniper is still better, strictly speaking. But HeavySniper remains the boring option (and that is perfectly fine!) If you want to use a more explosive gun, or if you want a gun which is easier to aim, you get the choice of picking the new AOE sniper, which is slightly less powerful overall as a balancing drawback

so a mgl on crack and steriods

I mean, technically? I don't see any problem with that. And personally i'd call it a Rocket Launcher variant, if you insist on seeking similarities like that. Both the Rocket and the gun proposed here have on-impact explosives

If a bullet hits a person do they take damage like they normally would from a bullet or would it explode? And would it be a 2 hit kill? @DisposableKatyusha

Why not both? Effectively doubling the gun's damage on direct hits. If you set the damage to 20, you end up with a cool setup where indirect hits (AOE) are 3 hit kill, and direct hits (20 dmg direct + 20 dmg AOE = 40 dmg) are 2 hit kill

Of course, the splash would need to be large enough for it to matter. I also think it would be better if the splash had no falloff, i.e. there is no difference in damage between the center and the edge
