infantry tab #15

Open SpicyAlfredo opened 6 years ago

This tab needs the least amount changed IMO. Even so I'm suggesting moving Amoured cars here in this fashion. Also merging the two in Amoured Personal Carries late 1950's. Which is a new tech, but are basically mechs+

Also I feel we should add Great war motorized and anti tank to the tree

I don't know if we need all the Jaeger units, do we? Desert has always been funky, for example, and also redundant with the desert clothing line in the equipment side.

Speaking of, it seems like camo + flamethrowers + snipers should be moved to the infantry tab or the subunits tab next door.

Llutozz commented 6 years ago

I'd agree with the Jaeger stuff. Not ultra needed, so to say. The Support Company Expansion mod I showed in issue #6 basically did that the flamethrowers and snipers (along with mortars).

SpicyAlfredo commented 6 years ago

I don't know if flamethrowers and snipers where separate support companies though?

Greatexperiment commented 6 years ago

They are listed over on the expanded equipment, and aren't new units - just bonuses. I'd like to keep them, but maybe make them actual units or at least make them more interesting. Then also move them to the Support tab, or Infantry, depending on which use we want for them

This is one possible infantry design.

SpicyAlfredo commented 6 years ago

I don't understand the flow chart

Greatexperiment commented 6 years ago

IE = Improved Equipment Gun = Gun MG = Machine Gun AT = Anti-Tank MSE = Mission Specific Equipment (replacing camo + hot / cold uniforms) SF = Special Forces MAR = Marines PAR = Paratroopers URB = Urban (Replacing Shock Troops) MOU = Mountain

Jaeger, Desert, and the others are being removed (maybe?)

SpicyAlfredo commented 6 years ago

I think special forces should have it's on branch. Having to tech into so many techs before being able to get SF hurts minors as they have less research spots to spare

Greatexperiment commented 6 years ago

I'm not sure if this is a huge concern. They are minors, after all. There should be a massive difference in the research capabilities of WWII USA vs. Ethiopia. Not just in terms of slots, but of quality. HOI II covered this by also having Technology Teams with different skills and strengths (Like electronics level 5, etc). I really miss that system, and I think it did make the distinction clear - slots are just one factor.

Could we have tech teams again? I would be interested to try that out.

swf541 commented 6 years ago

What was tech teams?

swf541 commented 6 years ago

Just read about them on the hoi2 wiki, couldnt these be a set of laws or national ideas? Would be quite interesting imo

Greatexperiment commented 6 years ago

Yeah, and the more I think about it - the more I want them back.

It's slightly redundant with the manufacturers though. That would need to be balanced or changed.

However, at the least I think we could do some tech events. Research breakthroughs and espionage are things that might be involved.

What do you guys think about Militia/Garrison units? They obviously wouldn't be in the tech tree - but like a starter unit for every country. I just realised actually that's very similar to KR. Personally, I think Militia could be nice but don't really see a use for Garrisons at the moment.

Also - shouldn't bicycle units be a starting unit for every country? Just sayin'.

(didn't really know where to put this so I just threw it in here)

Greatexperiment commented 6 years ago

Bikes are pretty basic tech. Not sure why most countries wouldn't have it.

Militia makes sense, but the game already spams units as it is. We need to solve the unit spam situation before throwing in another cheap unit type.

SpicyAlfredo commented 6 years ago

I'm against bikes for everyone because it's a flavor tech, very few countries actually field bikes. And it put us into 'meme' territoriy giving everyone the ability to have bikes.

Greatexperiment commented 6 years ago

Fine by me.
