Hi, what do you think about only creating package(-sources) that do modification on the system (or applies special tools)... Then create a source-repository for that, that you can hook up in the feeds.confs for compiling your images with the normal OpenWRT build chain.
Maybe you can provide some additional scripts that helps building and so on...
Doing a "hart fork" with copying the source, is not the elegant way, especially if you take account of urgent patches you need to follow and apply for yourself.
