low resolution problem #1

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

Resolution is limited a 320 x 240, in 8bit. Is there any way to change this
configuration?

I also noticed the strange colours on tpilot and 1942 games.

320x240 for what? The size depends on the game and is dynamic.

Strange colours? Have you compared to DOS MAMEv0.37b5 or MAME4ALL on other
devices. What sort of strange colours, they both look fine to me.

I compared them to advance mame 106.
Colors appear to be washed out and the picture is much darker and lacks
vibrancy when compared to advmame.
It could be the consequence of forcing 8bit colors.
Your mame4all is so fast that using 16bit may not slow it down considerably but
I'm just guessing.

Is there any way to force 16bit colours?

mame4all-pi is designed for speed not accuracy. No plans to support 16bit due
to the performance. This is an old version MAME that is known not to be
accurate with colours. If you need more accurate colours you need to use a
later version of MAME.

I found out that video quality can be improved by changing gamma settings.
Unfortunately, these settings are not remembered after exiting the game.

How have you changed the gamma settings?

When in game, press 'tilde' button - the one below ESC and above TAB.
Keep pressing UP until you find it and then left/right to increase/decrease
the gamma value.

The latest version is 16bit but I didn't notice any improvement in colour
quality.
It seems it is connected with the old mame version, not 8bit or 16bit.
