Problems with 64 bit #310

Installed this app on my phone, o.k. no problem. Downloaded the client for
desktop. Installed 64 bit version. Fine. Tried to run 64bit desktop client.
Gives me an error saying that I need a 64 bit OS as well as Java 64 bit. I go
to www.Java.com there is no 64bit Java download listed anywhere on the site. I
look in my control panel, sure enough I have 32 bit Java installed on my Win 7
machine even though I am running 64bit version of Win7. Can't seem to find any
link for the Java 64 bit except from sites that are not owned by Sun, Oracle,
or Java.com so I can not use the app. Also, I can find a page on Java.com that
talks about which Java version to download 64bit or 32bit and yet not once on
this page does it tell you where to get the 64 bit version. How stupid is that.
http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.xml
Plus I'm not even sure if I find Java 64 bit version whether I should install
it or not because I find all kind of sites like this that say that Java 64 bit
is slow and sluggish.
http://asserttrue.blogspot.com/2008/11/why-64-bit-java-is-slow.html
Also, it seems from the previous link that it says that the version of Java you
download should reflect the version of IE that you have and I am using IE9 beta
and it doesn't tell you in the about page whether it's 64 bit or not like in
the full release version.

The page you linked to does give a link to the download page...

If you don't want to use 64 bit Java then just download the 32 bit version of
android-notifier.

You probably have two versions of IE, 32 and 64bit. Type "internet explorer" in
start menu and see that there is a "Internet Explorer (64-bit)" shortcut.

Here is a link to Sun's site to download any Java version:
https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-
/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=jre-6u22-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Developer

Like zipbob said, you can use the 32-bit version just fine. The app is very
lightweight, I don't think using the 64-bit version will have a huge impact in
memory usage. I'm investigating merging both versions to avoid confusion for
users.
