MiniCasas Portugal -> EcoHouse 🏠 #19

As noted by @Stephanymtr in https://github.com/dwyl/tiny-house/issues/21 MiniCasas Portugal is a family-owned/operated business based in Caldas da Rainha: google.com/maps/place/MiniCasas+Portugal/@39.4068795,-9.32088285

It's 290km from Braga so I don't think we would drive there (600+km round trip!) on a whim. 🚗 ⏳ But I think we should definitely try and book a meeting with them on Monday 26th September 📆 when we are driving up from Sofia's Wedding: https://goo.gl/maps/pnzHPNpFSVisPdXm9

This looks like the best Tiny House on Wheels available in Portugal!

EcoHouse

The EcoHouse (about 5,5 x 2,5 m) is our version of sustainable construction, built mainly with natural materials (wood, cork, wool, etc…). The EcoHouse can include a bathroom with dry toilet, shower and kitchenette.

We can install a simple 12-volt photovoltaic system and a portable gas system for water heating, without the need for a storage tank.

Possible treatment for the exterior with the Japanese wood burning technique Shou Sugi Ban.

The interior is very basic/spartan. But that's exactly what we want as an initial Tiny House we can place on the land https://github.com/dwyl/phase-three/issues/116 to have a place to stay in while the "main" house(s) are being re-built. 🏗️

@iteles please share your thoughts on contacting João Neves & Karolien van Eck to request a meeting. 💭

@nelsonic I'm getting this:

Are João and Karolien the owners? Do they also have a business making tiny houses so we could roll staying there and a business meeting into one with them?

nelsonic commented 2 years ago

@iteles yeah, a few mins after I opened this issue I did a page refresh and got a 500 error but didn't think anything of it ... 🤷‍♂️

As @Stephanymtr noted in https://github.com/dwyl/tiny-house/issues/21#issuecomment-1242685337 their contact details are:

We don't need to act on this today but maybe next week we could reach out to them by Phone 🤙 and see if they have availability for a meeting/tour. 📆

Spoke to João Neves from MiniCasas on the phone now. Delightful chap. ❤️

He informed that he's been operating at "half steam" lately because of "health issues". 🤒 But was very helpful and is happy to help us with anything he can. 🤞

He was transparent about the fact that the houses he builds are NOT Homologated ("Não Homologados") 🚫 meaning they cannot be towed on public roads. ("Não podem circular na via pública"...) 🙅 His reasoning is that the road-legal trailers cost more money up-front and unless you plan to tow it frequently, it doesn't make much sense. He says that most people get their Tiny home delivered by a truck and then never move it (on pubic roads) so having a road-legal trailer is an extra €4-6k that doesn't need to spent. 💭

Not having a road-legal trailer is only an issue if the council orders us to remove it with a tight deadline ... And if we want to move it ourselves between properties. 🚋 See: https://www.imt-ip.pt/sites/IMTT/Portugues/Veiculos/Aprovacoes/HomologacoesVeiculos/Paginas/HomologacaoVeiculos.aspx

João recommended that we speak to tinyhouseportugal.com in Pedrogão Grande as their TinyHouses on Wheels ARE Homologated and under 3.5Tn so can be towed by anyone with a regular driving license.
