SORMAS stands for “Surveillance, Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System“, developed during the West African Ebola pandemic 2014/15. SORMAS is an early warning and management system based on flexible mobile telephone apps in combination with modern cloud technology, enabling even countries equipped with only limited information and communication technologies (ICT) • To record infection outbreaks without delay, • To monitor complex processes to interrupt infection chains and • To ensure continuous analyses of the epidemiological situation

Ghana Case-based forms to be implemented in SORMAS 1.87.0 - Web and Mobile #156
On 28th February, 2023, the Ghana Health Service (Disease Surveillance Department) herein refer to as GHS-DSD requested (via email) for changes to be effected on the SORMAS platform. GHS-DSD acknowledged the fact that SORMAS is an essential tool in their surveillance system in Ghana. However, certain changes has to be done on the SORMAS platform to enhance its functionality and meet their specific demands.
Proposed Change
What began as a review of the SORMAS platform to propose changes for specific diseases (e.g., Yellow Fever, Meningitis, AHF, and AFP-Acute Flaccid Paralysis) has evolved into a request from GHS-DSD for the platform to adopt features—such as data entry field arrangements—that align closely or exactly with the case-based forms for these diseases.
The four-mentioned diseases that was initially being reviewed increased to thirteen (13) namely:
Yellow fever [Web - #157], [Android - #158]
Meningitis
AHF
AFP
Measles
Monkeypox
Covid-19
Cholera
Neonatal Tetanus (NNT)
Guinea worm
Influenza
IDSR Immediate Case Based Form Other Conditions *New
These attachments are the reviews received from GHS-DSD.
A snap shot of the 13 case-based forms that were sent is attached below:
13_Snap_shots of GHS case_based_forms.docx
Added Value/Benefit
Once these changes are effected, GHS-DSD can better utilize the SORMAS platform to meet their specific needs.
Acceptance Criteria
[ ] Field arrangements on SORMAS must mirror the 13 case-based forms sent by GHS-DSD.
[ ] Labels must mirror what is on the 13 case-based forms.
[ ] Sections (e.g. case, case person, hospitalization etc) must mirror what is on the 13 case-based forms.
[ ] System to automatically move to the next section after saving in current section (Same implementation used in Android must be applied on web version).
[ ] Symptoms (i.e. Clinical history) must only show based on the case-based form.
[ ] Changes done on the web must be applied on the android version.
Implementation Details
Current
SORMAS Forms are being updated to mirror what is on case-based forms
New fields and labels are created.
Existing fields and labels are updated to reflect GHS-DSD case based forms.
Android: Design a form builder in android to easily received fields defined in the database that is linked to a disease. With this implementation, new diseases can easily be configured in SORMAS with little or no coding required.
Future
Web: Design a form builder in the web version to easily receive fields defined in the database that is linked to a disease.
