When I remove a topic facet I end up with all results. I would think the expected behavior if there is no search term, to be that of entering nothing in the search box, which yields no results. But it is acting like a search for everything, equivalent of entering a "*" in the search box.

Good catch Randy, but actually, I had told Peter that if you click the search button with nothing in the search box, it should return everything.

But what you found IS an inconsistency. If you search nothing from the homepage you get no results. If you search nothing from the results page, you get everything.

We do need to fix the inconsistency, but every time we mess with this type of issue it has many unintended consequences, so I want this deferred for now. It's good enough for now, and it's not worth breaking something at this moment.
