this is minor if you can tackle it the white Equiality Illinois in the masthead should line up with the left edge of the slider below

Hm.. I'm not sure if I should try to increase the width of the sidebars, move the background image in the header. Thoughts?

Move the background image. If I recall, theres actually two background images overlaid on top of each other, on the same element. Is that correct?

Correct. Fixed in main.css.
