[Regional Emissions]: Potential source for geotermal co2eq values for Turkey #5019

Description

On of our slack members posted a new potential source for geotermal co2eq values for Turkey. Full message bellow:

Hi there! Excellent platform, thank you! Are there plans to update the scientific sources soon? Some figures like the CO2 emissions by sources published by IPCC are now too generic and inaccurate. For example, CO2 from geothermal power production in Turkey is measured at 596 CO2/kWh by the latest publications (Stanford Uni - https://pangea.stanford.edu/ERE/db/GeoConf/papers/SGW/2020/Akin.pdf) , whereas IPCC's 2014 estimate in 2014 was 38 CO2/kWh. Thank you!

Thanks, Viktor, here is another reference to crosscheck. TURKEY GEOTHERMAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT IMPORTANT HIGH CO2.pdf

Hi! The statistic he's referring to is here. "The average emission of these GPPs is 595.92 CO2/kWh respectively, which is significantly lower than 2015 average (887 g/kWh)." (Akin 2020)

The second paper linked mentions: "In the project scenario, CO2 emissions were estimated using an average emission factor from geothermal energy facilities in Turkey (power and direct use) estimated at 206 gCO2/kWh. In the baseline scenario, CO2 emissions were estimated based on the combined margin grid emission factor of 583 gCO2/kWh taken from voluntary C market Gold Standard Projects in the Turkey portfolio."
