Passphrase problem #2070

Open Wandelstock opened 4 years ago

Describe the bug With a new device installed it wants the passphrase to set up all secure connections again (instead of verifying with 2 devices). But passphrase is not recognised (stored in Keepass, so that is strange). Reset the backup and want to save the secure backup again it gives after using passphrase "cannot save backup"

Smartphone (please complete the following information):

Is your account on a custom homeserver? In the last 2 months I have lost track of how many homeservers, (mobile/web/etc) clients, devices, and accounts I've spun up in a huuuuuge amount of testing across several different backend stacks... and I've just not experienced anything as you describe.

If nothing else, this ticket belongs upstream, as this isn't device specific.

I asked my host nltrix.net but nobody found something strange. But this occurs on all kinds of clients. Nobody found something strange (they say!!!). Hence my question to make encryption optional.

As I say, this ticket belongs upstream, but it sounds to me like there's something funky with your account or setup or... something

it is a server side problem, but that makes matrix/element in a whole weak, because there are no options. This whole thing set me back to rcs, it has no encryption but it's 100% reliable. Again, make e2ee optionally with e2ee standard on.

My last words. Because I don't use element anymore
