A quick workaround would be to create a folder on your external drive, and then
set up Phoshare to export into that folder instead of the root of your drive.

Many many thanks for your prompt reply. Photos exported!
However, where I can see the Metadata in the file in Finder? I cannot see the
Original Date (as displayed in iPhoto's Extended File Info) in the file in
Finder. I can only see Date Modified and Date Created in Finder (which shows a
date different from Original Date). (What are Date Modified and Date Created
anyway?).
Thanks in advance again!

To see the meta data, open the file in Preview, and then open the inspector
window. In the "i" tab, under "Exif", you will find "Date Time Original". That
is when the picture was taken. "Date Modified" and "Date Created" just track
when the file on your disk was first written, and when the file was last
changed. These are not related to the time the picture was taken.

Many thanks for your Phoshare and your answer to my queries! You have saved my
day, not only helping me exporting the photos easily (I used to export the
photos event by event) but solved my biggest problem I have - where I can find
the Metadata (for a long time I thought I have lost the original date of all my
photos in the Ext HD backed up using Export in iPhoto as it just shows the date
of export in Finder. I was so upset for this and Applecare hotline just
apologies for this problem...!
May I ask also, let say I have backed-up all photos as of yesterday using
Phoshare and did delete the Event in iPhoto, can I export photos not previously
exported without naming the Event/file name individually going forward (i.e.
can Phoshare recognise photos previously exported and skip it?) Many thanks
again.

Yes, Phoshare will not re-export or modify already exported pictures by
default.
There are options to re-export if the photo changed in iPhoto, and an option to
delete previously exported photos that are no longer in iPhoto. You don't want
to use that second option!
