11 years ago "Adams" is a plural form. Nothing called "Adam" singular has been mentioned in NME yet, so making references to "Adam" specifically would be misleading. It would sound less stupid, sure, but fans would think, "Aha! Mark.09 is THE Adam!" when that's not the case.
So blame Anno et al. for giving us a bum deal here. I don't see much choice but to treat "Adams" (blech) as a noun that can be both singular and plural.

11 years ago Adam (katakana: アダム; Hebrew: בראשית ,אדם i:xxvi) is the designation of the First Angel, the first of Earth's two Seeds of Life and the progenitor of the Third through Seventeenth Angels. Adam is also the genetic basis of the Evangelions (with the possible exception of Eva-01).
The Adams are four giants of light that were present at Second Impact in the Rebuild continuity. The entities have not yet been directly mentioned within the actual films, and essentially nothing concrete is known about them. They may collectively constitute Rebuild's undeclared 1st Angel, in place of NGE's Adam, but without further information this is a tentative guess at best.
I don't have the context, but couldn't they be referring to Adam, the First Angel?

In NGE, Adam was "ADAMU", and just one entity. In NME, this became Adams (ADAMUSU), with four shown at Second Impact. They're clearly in multiple. Even in 3.0, more than one being is aligned with "Adams": Mark.09 is called "Adamusu no utsuwa" (lit. vessel of Adams) and Eva-13 is "Adamusu no ikinokori" (lit. survivor of Adams). Based on the available information, the guesses regarding the nature of "Adams" are quite vast. By simplifying it to "Adam", we would eliminate potentially vital information and arrive at a conclusion for the audience that is not necessarily true.

Shouldn't it be "Adam's Vessel"?
