It finally happened today! Will finish up this PR and get it merged and finally get back to releasing v1
Copyrights for EventFlow are moving fully to the original author.
EventFlow was originally created in 2015 while I worked at eBay, and while eBay really wants to be part of the open source community, it had some bad experience with e.g. employees leaking company IP. So when I created EventFlow, eBay required me to have partial copyrights to the project. While I certainly did not want this, it did mean that eBay helped me with the initial legal stuff and I could schedule talks with the in-house open-source attorney.
Now fast forward to the year 2021, here Schibsted (authors of e.g. varnish) buys the local brands that I’m part of and thereby the copyrights of EventFlow. Schibsted has an even longer history of ❤️ open-source, which is why today I’m able to announce that Schibsted has given me the full copyrights of EventFlow.
What does this mean for every developer that uses EventFlow? Nothing really, copyrights on MIT licensed open-source projects are AFAIK pretty easy to circumvent for users.
What’s gonna happen with EventFlow? The licence header is being updated, EventFlow will forever stay on the MIT licence and moving the copyrights ensures that I’m able to make that promise.
