Describe the Bug

So I've been running the IPTV support for a while now. Very happy, everything worked nicely, until this evening. Tried restarting the service, rebooting the UDM etc. Log output doesn't really show any issue as far as I can tell, but when I restart the STB it stops loading at 85% and before rebooting it showed the 400 error. I was able to change channels on another STB but the video feed froze after a few seconds everytime I changed channels. But after restarting I don't get it beyond the 85% loading screen.

I'm running UDM Pro 1.12.21 and network 7.1.65 (upgraded both 5 days ago).

Expected Behavior

Working IPTV :)

I noticed that I was still on 2.1.0 so I upgraded to 2.1.3. After restarting the STB it still hanged at 85% but after a few minutes it suddenly started working again. Not sure if is due to the upgrade to 2.1.3 or it was another hickup that resolved itself, but for now I will close this issue. :)

I spoke too soon 😕 After watching for a few minutes the video freezes and shows the error again. Switching channels gives a few seconds of video after which it freezes again. No other issues with the fiber connection. Hopefully it is a problem at KPN which resolves overnight. 😬

I upgraded network this morning to 7.1.66 (which is a RC). Also removed udm-iptv and did a total new install. Unfortunately this did not help. When I restart the STB and it goes to 100% the video seems to be working for a few minutes after which it freezes again. When I then change channels they work for a few seconds and freeze.

Tried with the original (v10) modem of KPN this morning. IPTV works. So it has something to do with my setup. Might be the version changes, but why did it only showcase itself after a week or so?

This is what I did:

Thursday May 12 I upgraded the UDM Pro from 1.11.x to 1.12.19 which included network 7.1.61.
Sunday May 14 I upgraded to 1.12.21 which included network 7.1.65.

Everything worked correctly afaik (I don't watch IPTV that much, but my wife did watch some programs in the past few days). Until yesterday evening that it. Upgrading tot network 7.1.66 did not help either.

The only other change I made was the upgrade to version 2.1.3, but that was already after I started having issues.

So it might be an incompatibility with the 1.12.x UDM Pro software, or ...?

BTW I use a separate LAN (4) and only the 2 STBs are connected to this LAN using an IPTV profile.

BTW, checked again with my wife. She isn't sure if she watched IPTV since last Thursday/Sunday. So it might still be UDM 1.12.x or Network 7.1.6x related?

Yeah, thought about that, but they are probably days away from releasing it as stable anyway. So more people will run into this soon, if it is firmware related. So I'd rather help finding a solution for the 1.12.x firmware so everyone can benefit.

I believe you can downgrade the UDM Pro firmware without touching the controller.

Note that that either command will capture traffic until you cancel it.

@petercv Could you try pinging the receiver and check the latency? I encountered a similar issue due to AP meshing causing a spotty connection to the receiver.

Sorry, I haven't had time yet to dive deeper into this. Will try to do so this weekend. Don't think it will be latency issue though, the receiver is directly connected to a USW-48-POE which is directly connected to the UDM Pro.

I have the traces. What is the best way to send them to you? Also tried to ping the STB from the UDM, but that doesn't seem to work. Maybe because it is on a separate VLAN?

Another update. I've changed the configuration to bind the IPTV handling both to the default LAN network and the IPTV network I created. When I switch the port profile to the "All" profile and restart the STB it gets an IP of the LAN network and IPTV works (and keeps working). Switching back to the IPTV profile shows the same behavior as before. So somehow it now only works on the LAN network.

BTW I don't have the LAN DHCP server configured with the IPTV-Class. Isn't that really necessary? Do you know what that is supposed to do?

Had the same config as you and indeed switching back to the LAN network fixed it for me. Have been watching for a few hours without issues.

Could you try connecting the receiver directly to the UDM Pro. I am trying potential culprits.

I think you are on to something, because connecting the STB to the UDM Pro directly works! (And I made sure it had the IPTV profile.)

That indicates a problem with the switch. I have heard before of the USW firmware having issues with IGMP.

Perhaps related to the firmware version of your switch?

If you still want to continue debugging the issue, you could try to disable IGMP Snooping on the switch/network.

I have seen other users report that multicast was not working correctly when it was enabled on a UniFi switch.

BTW, UDM 1.12.22 was released officially today, the release notes contain the following entry: Add support for IGMP snooping on UDM/UDM-Pro switch ports.

Does that mean that getting it to work on the UDM Pro port itself (on which the separate LAN option worked) wouldn't even have worked pre 1.12? :) Just wondering.

As far as I understand, a proper IGMP snooping implementation is only an optimization and should not affect network behavior.

mine works for 4 and a half minutes and stops working, when i switch channels it works for an other 4.5 minutes and gives error 400.

how did you setup this, it might not be the best but having my family complain its not working is worse. can you share screenshots of your config. thanks!

okey i have no clue why but i changed it from br0 to br4 and when i did this before it didnt work at all and now it keeps working as expected.

even tho when running the installer it gets set to br0

Currently still using my default LAN for IPTV. We did notice the image occasionally freezing with a 400 error in the end, when we change channels and go back again everything works again. I noticed in the logs the following error (multiple times):

Jun 06 11:16:09 ubnt igmpproxy[7838]: MRT_DEL_MFC; Errno(2): No such file or directory

Read on the Tweakers forum that some people also had this error which went away when they moved everything to a separate V(LAN). So I'm still planning on using direct ports on the UDM Pro instead of the USW so I can use the separate LAN again (I'd rather don't because that means I have to move one of my AP to a switch in the living room instead of having a direct connection with the USW).

However, I also noticed that igmpproxy is also running as a separate service. E.g. the udm-iptv package starts its own instance but there is also a default instance running. I stopped the default service and didn't notice the earlier error anymore in the logs (but it is only running like this for 15 minutes now, although at first before these changes I noticed the errors within minutes after a restart). Maybe the installer should disable the default igmpproxy service which is automatically enabled when you install the igmpproxy package?

I can imagine the default igmpproxy service doing its thing on the br0 interface, which might conflict?

Doesn't seem so. Did notice some other errors though:

Just a weird question. Have you tried the command: "dpkg-reconfigure -p medium udm-iptv" by any chance? i suspect you did. I rebooted my UDM last night and had a issue as well. I restarted and kept getting stb-nmc-400 until i used that command and reconfigured

Restarting the service does help for a few days though.

I've got it running for days now without problem, could you share the .config file with me maybe I can spot something and did you also use the custom port profile?

Tagged profile is "default" so lan

And then put the port profile on the port the iptv is on.
