Describe the problem you'd like to solve

Whilst impacting on every child in the country, COVID-19is likely to have a particularly pernicious impact on the estimated four million children and young people already living in poverty in the UK. Furthermore, we estimate that 1.7 million children aged 10-17 are living in a household with problem debt and an estimated 2.1 million children of the same age are living in a household where there has been difficulty paying the bills. Financial instability will rise during the COVID-19crisis and low-income families already unable to budget for unexpected expenses will be hit the hardest. This short briefing focuses on the likely impact of COVID-19 on young people facing poverty or destitution

What is currently being done to solve this problem? 1. Although charities have praised the government for acting swiftly, there are already reports that the lowest paid are struggling to afford food and utilities such as gas and electricity, and some food banks are reporting big increases in demand.

The situation is very complicated. After all, many families with children remain below the poverty line. It is difficult to imagine how these people will be able to survive the covid if they do not have money for ordinary food. The state must take care of this segment of the population, especially in this difficult time for all.
