I'm sorry that I'm only using Fedora Silverblue and can't reproduce it anywhere else. It wouldn't make a difference because on my other computer the problem doesn't occur.
Describe the bug
After upgrading to 6.9.5-200.fc40.x86_64, any attempts to run any applications cause Gnome to crash and return to the login screen.
To Reproduce
Please describe the steps needed to reproduce the bug:
Make sure you're running 6.9.5-200.fc40.x86_64.
Log into Gnome in Wayland mode.
Run any application (I've tried Firefox, Foot Client, Terminal, Calculator, Extension Manager, virtually everything).
The desktop turns black and returns to the login screen.
Expected behavior
The selected application should open and run normally.
Screenshots
I'm sorry, but I can't take a screenshot.
Additional context
I disabled all startup applications and Gnome extensions, with the same result. The only way for it not to crash is to log in with Xorg instead of Wayland; not only some of my most used apps won't run (such as Foot), but the system has become visibly (and annoyingly) slower.
I've rebased my system to Onyx because I don't feel comfortable skipping on security updates.
All of this is on my desktop. On my laptop, all upgrades went through to perfection and I have no issues to report. According to some research I've conducted, apparently there's a compatibility issue with Radeon graphics hardware, but I can't confirm.
Please let me know of any additional information you might need.
The problem is solved. The latest remark on Bugzilla informs a new build is available:
FEDORA-2024-337ebae0a7 (mesa-24.1.2-7.fc40) has been pushed to the Fedora 40 stable repository.
If problem still persists, please make note of it in this bug report.
