This issue also exists using Gimp 2.7 on Ubuntu 11.04

The presets are installed properly, but not of the brush presets are accessible
from within GIMP.

For the compatibility with Gimp 2.7 and your issue with Gimp 2.7 on Ubuntu
11.04 ; it's normal if it doesn't work as GPS wasn't made for this Gimp serie (
only 2.6.X ). A first portage have been made here last week by Liquidape :
http://www.graphicall.org/349 . The package is a portable zip for Windows, but
you can extract from this version the preference and use them on Ubuntu. (
unhide after extracting the ZIP the hidden files, and use the content of the
'.gimp-2.7' folder to paste it for your /home/username/.gimp-2.7 ). This should
work for your Ubuntu install :)

For your other problems , it seams to be not related to the pack of preset but
more to the Gimp instalation. Be sure to have a correct install of the presets.

On Ubuntu for a -2.6.x Gimp- a simple way threw terminal is like this
(becarefull this terminal line will overwrite your previous preference of Gimp,
save them before for security ) :

wget
http://gps-gimp-paint-studio.googlecode.com/files/GPS%201_5_final%20release.zip
unzip GPS\ 1_5_final\ release.zip -d ~/.gimp-2.6
rm GPS\ 1_5_final\ release.zip

Another common mistakes, is to select a tool with the stylus ( ex : brush ) and
try to use the mouse to select a preset. The mouse usage change of tool ( the
last selected with mouse ) and this tool may not have presets. So be sure to
have the tool selected.

Hope you found the solution with this.
