Description

vertical scrolling becomes unresponsive when viewing a folder with approx. 400-500 files mostly mixed image types with some videos and zip archives. View is set to icon grid with icon size either small or medium. Scrolling first becomes sluggish then the scrolling eventually stops responding at all. It happens in 3.2.7.0 but my experience is that this bug has persisted the entire time I have known about Files. At least a few versions.

System: 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz / 32GB RAM

Windows 11 Pro / 24H2 Build 26080.1 Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.1.0

Steps To Reproduce

  1. access folder with a few hundred files. mostly images
  2. set to grid view. any icon size.
  3. scroll up and down and/or use features like drag and drop to copy selected files to tabs
  4. eventually scrolling will freeze
  5. only way to recover is to close and reopen the tab or restart the entire files application

Requirements

Files Version

3.2.7.0

Windows Version

11.26080.1

Log File

none

What happens if you disable the thumbnails?

I'd also like to know if this issue occurs in the stable version.

Switching to list or detail view changes the view but scrolling is still frozen. When the bug occurs, it does not prevent interacting with the files in any way. It just prevents scrolling to show more.

Edit: So far, in my usage, a view that begins with thumbnails off never experiences the problem.

It did. The reason why I switched to Dev from Community was to see if the bug had been addressed.

@yaira2 is more information still needed?

Not that I know of, but we need some more help to repro this.
